Break Through, Move Forward, and Arts Endless -- The Third Drone Vision Contest of the Both Sides Across Taiwan Strait, Hong Kong & Macao in 2020 Is Successfully Held

This contest is guided by All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots and co-sponsored by China TV Artists Association, China Association For Promotion of Culture, and China Association of Remote Sensing Application. Shenzhen Gaobert Cultural Development Co., Ltd. and Taiwan Galaxy Interactive Network Co., Ltd. undertook this contest together. In addition, the contest is also supported by China Association for Science and Technology, Taiwan Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, Shenzhen Dapeng New District Administrative Committee, and Shenzhen Taiwan Compatriots Association.

Under the impact of COVID-19, regardless of constraints brought by space, time and the epidemic, the Organizing Committee of the contest uses the innovative forms of "cloud final", "cloud review" and "cloud award" carry out all the activities of the contest, and adhere to the principle of justice and fairness. Event procedures and events should be complete. Besides, in order to improve the quality of the contest works, we focus on strengthening the invitation of the core cadre judges of the contest judging panel. On the basis of the previous two judges, we invited several outstanding filmmakers, aerial photographers and journalists who were born in the 1970s and 1980s and had outstanding performance in their respective positions to join the panel of judges. The contest started in August this year. In the preliminary stage, works were widely collected, voted for online, reviewed by experts, the top 30 list is released, and the creation is limited to 72 hours and reviewed by experts. Then the final award ceremony set off a wave of "aerial photography boom" in the industry. 

The concept of "cloud" held the first contest in the industry 

The organizers of the contest have carefully planned and prepared, fully integrating the technologies and concepts of 5G, the Internet, and live streaming into the entire process of the contest for the sake of actively responding to the difficulties and pressures brought about by the epidemic. Innovative forms such as cloud launch, cloud voting, cloud review, cloud release, cloud finals, and cloud awards are used to overcome many difficulties to successfully complete the work flow of this contest. Also, we have made more breakthroughs in the dissemination of works than before.   It is pioneering and breakthrough within the industry. It also adapts to the current trend of “cloud technology” development.

Top 30 list, widely recognized by the industry 

The online voting stage of the contest was extremely popular, with nearly 100 works. More than 100,000 votes were cast through the Internet and mobile terminals, and nearly 500,000 people followed the event. In this contest, based on the number of online votes and expert review opinions, the TOP30 list of "The Third Drone Vision Contest of the Both Sides Across Taiwan Strait, Hong Kong & Macao in 2020" was obtained.

According to the judging panel, the overall quality of the entries in this contest has greatly improved compared to previous years. The works have excellent composition and color. They also fully demonstrate the contest theme from different perspectives, while possessing their own unique style and artistic characteristics. Whether it is the practicality of skills, the diversity of narration, or the breadth of materials, it indicates that the aerial photography creation contest is moving towards a high-level national contest. 

Renowned big shots maintain a strict standard, and ensure the high standard of contest 

Since its inception, the drone aerial photography contest has been committed to creating a cross-regional, high-level, and high-quality event in the field of drone aerial photography. Great efforts were made in inviting expert judges, and the most authoritative judging panel in the field of drone aerial photography to date was formed to demonstrate the professional and authoritative quality of the contest.

In this contest, we found the contest invited Mr. Hu Zhanfan, Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Chairman of the China TV Artists Association, to continue serving as the chairman of the judging panel for this year's contest. In addition, various industry experts from the film and television industry, art field, and drone aerial photography field were invited to comprehensively review and maintain a strict standard of the contest entries. Mr. Liu Tiemin, former director of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala and Variety Show, Mr. Yu Le, director of the CCTV program "Aerial China", Mr. Li Gang, a senior film and television director from Taiwan, Mr. Li Lichi, a famous director from Hong Kong, and Mr. Cai An’an, President of the Macao Film Association and a well-known director, will continue to serve as judges for the contest to evaluate the submitted films. 

Besides, the Organizing Committee invited Liu Fengyu, President of Camouflage Light Media and former producer of the August First Film Studio, who has directed more than 30 outstanding film and television works, Yin Peng, a senior photographer and drone aerial photography director at China Central Television, Ma Hua, Director of the Innovation Incubation Center of CNTV and winner of the first prize of the China News Award, Liu Junyu, a documentary producer and director at Sohu Video and former director of the Central Newsreel and Documentary Film Studio, Ma Xiang, Assistant Director of the Cultural Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and member of the Excellent Industrial Design Award Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Tan Xiang, Executive Secretary-General of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Application and Control Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qiao Zhou, the senior director and aerial director of SZTV, winner of "Judge's Special Recommendation Award" in the first Drone Vision Contest of the Both Sides Across Taiwan Strait, Hong Kong & Macao, Li Shaoqiang, director of Zhongshan TV Station; Liu Kuanxin, director of China Photographers Association, chairman of Beijing Aerial Photography Committee, winner of multiple photography awards and senior judge; Xing Shengde, expert of cultural innovation, ecological tourism and marketing of UAV aerial photography in Taiwan's first-class university, and other art, film and television industry experts as judges. It is critical to provide beneficial improvement and guidance for this new form of contest in drone aerial photography, and to lay the foundation for establishing aerial photography standards. 

The final prize of the contest will be determined by the time-limited creation 

In the "cloud final" stage, the Organizing committee selected a total of 20 teams from the top 30 lists and invites them to participate in the final work for a limited time. Each team takes materials from their own resident areas, and produced works that meet the requirements of the contest within 72 hours as per the specified materials provided by the Organizing Committee.

 The judging panel, composed of top art and aerial photography masters, conducted a “online” professional evaluation, and the contest awarded five team awards, including gold, silver, and bronze awards, as well as the Network Popularity Award and the Media Attention Award. In addition, four individual awards were given, including Best Screenwriter, Best Drone Flyer, Best Gimbal Operator, and Best Editor. On September 26th, the grand award ceremony was held in the main venue in Shenzhen, and the contestants and judges from Beijing and other parts of the country participated online simultaneously.
